Jacques Greene - Lay It Down (UNO002)

Right, let's talk about some music again.

Second serving from New York's UNO imprint, featuring Jacques Greene on a wickedly bent acid tip. In contrast to the fancied House of his 'Another Girl' and 'The Look' hits, 'Lay It Down' is more rugged and acid tweaked, almost like Levon Vincent going toe-to-toe with Maurice Donovan. Remix reinforcements meanwhile come from Whatever/Whatever, furnishes the groove with more muscular bass and warehouse-ready cowbells, and then there's 'What Are You Feelin'?', a signature and much in-demand JG cut which has been in circulation with Mary Anne Hobbs and the Night Slugs posse for some time already. Class 12".

Fantastic release of swung, good vibes house with intricate details in the percussion and punchy frequencys coming from the bass. Big up Jacques Greene once again.

Friday 1 July 2011

Got my degree classification through today.

Suddenly, Summer!

I need to apologise for my weekend of inactivity, summer arrived unannounced. (How rude of it.)

Check this picture I took with my phone, not a single cloud!

My tan is pretty awesome right now though....

Anyway I have a really dope video for you. It's not long and trust it'll leave you going "wow, that was next level"

Friday 24 June 2011

So my favorite game is now FREE TO PLAY, biggup Valve on that one. Not sure if I like or dislike this move yet, guess we will find out in a week or so's time. It'll either ruin the game or it wont change it at all. I'm hoping for the latter, obviously.

For those who have an interest in gaming, but havn't played TF2, its really worth checking out. Double so now is free!

Linky Here to TF2 site.

Also: Valve (the makers of TF2) recently ran a move competition award thing. There was about 20 different catagorys and all of them are equally awesome, my favorite is below. It's only a minute long, check it!

Wednesday 22 June 2011

Some chilled dubby house.

Summer is here.... 28 degrees on sunday (which is awesome for the UK!) and the vibes are rolling.

This track is so soothing but progressive. Makes me want to go for a long late night drive around a empty metropolis...

Such a good tune, the dubbed out guitar progressions are so sublime...

You guys like it?

World War II: Before the War

This is such a powerful set of images, some are truely awesome on many different levels. if you have 5 minutes and have an interest in history check it out. Some arn't for the feint hearted!

World War II: Before the War

Here is a small selection of my favorites. There is 45 in total!

It's also a 20 part series, so be sure to check back!

Sunday 19 June 2011

Alot of people seem to have dissapeared and arn't commenting or active anymore, what gives?

Check this out. Watch this video, stare at the center dot. The final image you will see is black and white, but it'll appear coloured.

How awesome/weird is that?!

Friday 17 June 2011

Soul and Funk Friday!

Always got time for a bit of funk. It makes nice punctuation in between all the house and techno I normally listen to. Plus, I like to broaded my horizons.

More people should broaded their horizons. Try to listen to somthing new every week!

FACT Mag - 20 best: Grime

Now normally when people mention grime music the standard assumptions come to mind - rough aggressive lyrics, a dangerous music scene where artists are more than willing to physically hurt (and some cases kill or shoot at) other atists, and lots of beef.

A ya know, while this is true in a way - i mean, no smoke without fire after all - but im beginning to descover another side to grime. Or at least, dig in under the shell and research it a bit more.

Fact Magazine recently put up a great article titled "20 Best: Grime" - its a great way to get some proper first hand knowledge of the genre, rather than some rude boy from Reading offering to shoot you with his gat.

Article here - 20 Best: Grime

If you don't read the article, at least check this tune:

Lo-fi instrumentals that sound like they’re lost in the snow – grime’s romantic side never quite came out like it did here. Widely unknown gems for years (‘Funktions on the Low’ was wrongly uploaded to Limewire as Ruff Sqwad – ‘Havana’ back in day, and so it’s still often miscredited).

Monday 13 June 2011

I've started uStreaming!

So now i'm hooked up on the Technics 1210's (See my earlier post!) I decided to start doing some uStreaming!

I'm really impressed actually, the video quality is decent enough, and the audio quality is great for a live stream - but best of all, you CAN RECORD! How awesome is that? And it lets you save it forever!

So, ladies and gents - I give you: ME, making a tit out of myself on camera on the turntables.

Had really good fun recording this - all completely unplanned, which got funnier as time went on and I drunk more beers.

Sure was funny! It all gets a bit 80's about 1 hour 20 in!

Being Typically English: Part 2

So yeh, carrying on from my last post I have a few more photos to share.

The afternoon was lovely, and the weather turnt out fantastic.

The cakes were light and sweet, but very, very rich.

Also, expensive!

Hope you enjoy them :)

Saturday 11 June 2011

Being typically English: Part 1

So, it was my mothers birthday and because we are so typically English we went for tea. At a big country house.

I took a bunch of photos and i'll share some with you over the next few days, but trust me this place was proper "high society" - I felt well out of place!

Thursday 9 June 2011

Just hit 100 followers!

Big up everybody! Nice one, tomorrow i'm going to (hopefully) do an extra special post.

Thanks once again to everybody, big up yourselfs!

Wednesday 8 June 2011

Huge eruption on the sun!

Anyone else see this? It's truely amazing and beautiful, nature at her finist!

Worth watching if you have a spare 30 seconds. It's not long.

Tuesday 7 June 2011

So I picked up a pair of these today....

My first set of  1210's! So stoked on these right now.

I could write a massive review on these things but if anyone knows anything about turntables you've heard it all before. These decks are like easy mode mixing i swear. Really impressed.

Got them 2nd hand but they seriously look brand new, theyve come in much better condition than i had expected.

I'll get a better photo tomorrow, camera phone doesnt work so bad in low light!

Also: new handlebars.

Monday 6 June 2011

What song are you listening too; London Version

Tbh.... I think our selection is alot better than the New York version..... ;)

Sunday 5 June 2011

Austin Peralta - Endless Planets

Who likes jazz?

Yeh so I know this album has been out for ages now but I had a moment earlier whereby I went through some music from earlier on in the year and fell back in love with it.

These guys are out on the brain feeder label so you know its good stuff, and probably not what you're expecting. The particular track i've linked, Algiers, is 13 minutes of pure mesmerizing awesomeness.

I seriously recommend anyone whos into modern or older jazz, or anyone familar with a Brainfeeder label to check it out!

Link over to Boomkat!

Sony hacked.... again.

Sony hacked again, 1M passwords hit

Hackers struck anew against Sony, breaking into the website of its movie arm Sony Pictures and posting the stolen data online.

LulzSec, which had earlier broken into the sites of Sony Music Japan and Public Broadcasting Service earlier, claimed to have compromised the private data of over a million Sony Pictures customers.

Original article here.

The reason I am posting this is because I'd like to raise awareness of internet security. Also of people simply don't know you even need security, let alone that their information is vulnerable.

This really is the next battlegroumd, and the blackhat hackers will steal more and more data as the years progress. Hacking used to be reserved for corporate espionage but now I think we will start to see hackers taking advantage of systems for their own gain - remember, many hacker groups have stated that the REAL pro's can do it without being detected, and groups that go public do so only for political purposes. People should be lucky this time it was too make a point and not profit!

Friday 3 June 2011

Maybes,

Yo,

So i'm just simply posting this tune today, Please if you have 5 minutes listen to it with your eyes closed, preferably on a big system or with good headphones. It'll change your life.

This track, this production duo - so much pressure and vibes from these guys.

Follower, tell a friend to tell a friend!

A rare glimpse into daily life in the Capital of North Korea.

Wow, these photos are truly amazing. Taken by British photographer Charlie Crane who got a VERY rare chance to photograph ordinary people inside the media blackhole.

This is a set of some of the most powerful images i've seen in a very long time.

View the original article, and more photos here, here and here.. Take ten minutes to browse through, and enjoy them.

Tuesday 31 May 2011

Vicky D - This Beat is Mine

So I have a massive soft spot for 80's dance/house. 1981 I think this was first pressed. Such a grooving tune, and a great tune to throw in a set to lighten the mood inbetween the acid basslines. Funky!

The oldschool flavour is coming back in at full force now, it's not longer about whos got the newist tracks ya kno....!

Monday 30 May 2011

Bok Bok - Southside EP

Bok Bok's new EP dropped today (I think it was today at least) and I got ahold of my copy ASAP.

Everyone loves Bok Bok's output right now. Aswell as managing a label and putting on nights at clubs, he is also a spot on producer and DJ.

My favorite track has to be Silo Pass (Featured in the video below). It's old school grime connections just hit somthing with me that makes me pull a screwface and brock out. Love it.

What are other peoples opinions of Bok Boks sound on this ep?
Do you like where he is taking himself (and the label?) recently?

Saturday 28 May 2011

Gil Scott-Heron RIP

A brilliant poet and absolute legend. The world got that little bit more shitty today.

Wednesday 25 May 2011

Sorry for inactivity...

Yo,

real sorry for not being active recently. I have been VERY busy with uni work - but it's almost over... then to join the real world with everyone else.

Biggup all the blog famalam!

also: Pusherman.

Sunday 22 May 2011

Something a bit different. 90's grunge time!

Yeh so, before I got into eletronic music I was heavily into 90's grunge. In fact, I think the first ever album I bought was Superunknown (From which this tune is off). I still have a bit of a soft spot for the stuff - but I rarely go looking for new material these days.

Nothing beats Chris Cornells voice!

Thursday 19 May 2011

As promised...

As I promised here is the blurry photo of the previous tune.

Long live vinyl, this medium can't die, the message is too strong!!

Also: got this a few days early, not out till monday iirc - everyone loves a cheeky early whitelabel!

Wednesday 18 May 2011

Blawan - Getting Me Down

I'm on a MASSIVE hype over this tune. It's just so bouncy and energetic. I first heard it when Pearson Sound played it out at a gig in Southampton, and it went OFF.

Pretty stoked I managed to cop one of the limited pressings, should be here tomorrow! As usual i'll probably post a blurry picture of it.

Saturday 14 May 2011

HD-25 II's

So blogger was down yesturday for me - sorry about that.

Today these arrived, Sennheiser HD-25 II's, and i'm REALLY stoked on them.

I bought them mainly for DJ use rather than monitoring, but seriously these have such a good, full bodied sound. Right down to the deep lows, through the midrange right up to the knife point sharp highs. Really impressed.

Admittedly the build quality isn't "right up there" - and by that I mean they feel slightly plastic - but they feel far from fragile, i feel confident I could rip these of my head during a mix and not be worried about ripping a driver off.

But tbh i've come to aceept that from midrange headphones now - all the money goes straight into the drivers. And man - what drivers they are. Stoked right now.

Also: Metal.

Tuesday 10 May 2011

Slow house.

Bit of a mystical story behind this track. Basically I was searching through my phone and I found the title of this track written as a note - I have NO idea when i first heard it, why I wrote the name down or ANYTHING.  I've literally on idea how it got on my phone.

So basically before I knew it was this sick chillout slow house tune it was just a random word "trickski pill collins" - the hell? Gave it a google and this was returned.

Its a pretty awesome track aswell. Kinda chillout background music vibe, makes me wanna sit outside with a BBQ and a tall drink...

Enjoy.

Monday 9 May 2011

So we had some new hiphop last post...

Time for some older stuff.... 1996 vintage.

Not sure why but i'm really feeling hiphop agian right now. I go through stages. I think the slower beats and lyrical flow is a nice break from the relentless 4x4 130bpm stuff that im mainly listening too right now...

Meditation buisness, chill thing, head nod flow....

Sunday 8 May 2011

Jehst is my postman??

3 things:

1: This tune is sick.

2: I'm really hyped about Jehst's new album.

3: This viral campaign/hype machine thing is pretty well done!

Whos into UK hiphop here?

Review: Boddika - 2727 EP

First impressions: wow.

This is the best release I have bought in a LONG time - and not just for the music.

The physical product is brilliant, full gate folded sleeve complete with amazing artwork inside. All printed on a really weighty card with a glossy finish, really sets the product apart from the rest.

Brilliant art direction as always, keeping in like with the rest of Boddika's typeography and visual langage as previous Swamp81 releases - the end product here is really well made and complete. No corners cut.

Then theres the tunes - fantastic 4 records indeed. Tribal beats, analogue synth mastery and agressive high-hats. All on the 4x4, housey tip with triplets coming from garage influence, with techno and acid influenced melodys to accompany the big booming 808 basslines.

There are two 12" plates, both a nice, think weighty plate with deep, clear grooves cut. Again, nothing skimped on here. This is vinyl done properly.

I'm not actually going to review the music as such - mainly because I find all music reviews end up to be pseudo-artistic waffle - it was more the product I wanted to talk about - i'll let you guys check the music if you want.

Wednesday 4 May 2011

Tunes like these...

From the other half of producer-badman-duo Intra:mental comes Jon Convex. Another awesome solo project putting out just as sick tunes as Boddika.

This track has summer vibes all over it. From the garage influenced bassline to the chopped vocals, SICK.

Love dance music right now.

Series: |The 10 best British indie record labels - in pictures

This is a really cool article, the ten best British indie labels, with some lovely pictures to boot.

Whats your favorite label? There are so many more i'd love to put on that list, but I sense this went for "the bigger picture" rather than whats current right now.

Give it a few years and Swamp81 will be on this list for sure.

Saturday 30 April 2011

Gonna have to apologise for this.

Alright, ive been STUPID addicted to Portal2 past few days so thats the reason for not posting anything.... at all.

And Im still deeply addicted so this post is going to be rubbish also.

So I pose a simple question:

Coke or Pepsi?

Im 100% Pepsi myself, love the stuff.

Okay, I PROMISE my next post will be slightly more insightful and worth reading.

Thursday 28 April 2011

So - uhh, haha....

Alright - so, my student loan came in yesterday - first purchase? PORTAL 2. Standard.

First of all, thank you UK tax payers ;-) Couldnt of afforded it without you.

Secondly, wow this game is too good. I seriously recommend it to anyone, its just... just FUN. Pure fun without  any reservations. And Valve's sense of humor is brilliant.

RECOMMENDED.

P.S: Start thinking with portals!

Tuesday 26 April 2011

Yeh so hands up if you know the dance to this tune, don't be shy now...

Saturday 23 April 2011

Been super busy...

Been super busy with Uni work recently, not had time to post, so i'm going to ask you one simple question:

LV feat. Joshua Idehen - Routes Promo Mix

Here is a little mix from LV's upcoming album

A really interesting blend of slow house, dubby techno stuff, and of course "Norther Line" (which is an abolute tune, and also - What do you actually know about Moorgate tho?)

Thursday 14 April 2011

EZC - Spontanious House Mix by E Z C

So tonight after a beer or two I recorded a mix on the fly, tottaly unplanned and just grabbed random tunes as they came to me. Dont ask me for a track list - I have NO idea what 80% of these tunes are called. Selection turnt out pretty good tho - im impressed with myself, range from deep house to techno to some dubby bits to just grooves!

enjoy.

FACT mix 239: Jamie xx & Oneman

Everyone should know Oneman's name by now. His selection and skill on the turntable has been (pretty much) unmatched since forever. Dude is straight up a badman. Jamie XX is new to me, but ive been feeling his output also. Some of his works with Gil Scott Heron was fabulous.

I anticipate good things about this mix, the linky is here:

Spring + Sun + Countryside + BMX = Awesome.

I love this time of year, and Summer. I also love where I live. 10/15 minutes from city center, but far enough out that the countryside is also only a ten minute walk/ride away.

I picked up a new value this past weeks: never complain about the warmth when I also complain about the cold.

In typical British fashion, everyones started to complain "Its too hot" - fuck that, I hate the cold so i'm making everything I can of the sun and warmth.

So from now on, I shall never complain about the heat.

I also have a pretty awesome tan right now, u jelly?

Saturday 9 April 2011

Ramadanman/Pearson Sound last night.....

So last night I saw Ramdanman/Pearson Sound for the first time, in a darkly lit, small, quite cosey club. And it was off the hook.

People with questionable jaws, a dude doing the same motion for 3 hours straight, people knowing every drop, shit laser lighting, sweat dripping, rewind on Deep Inside, that messy girl on the table, bass heavy, groove loaded tunes, fucking SICK.

Oh yeh and I managed to take that hilarious picture of Ramadanman looking rapey as shit. We had prime position all night long.

So many new tunes played, and for once I wasn't drinking so I remember everything, intense. Many tunes went off so hard, and many tunes it was the first time i've heard played out. Woo Glut was incredible.

I could link so many other tunes but this'll do.

Thursday 7 April 2011

Mount Kimbie - Abbey road Debuts

So I absolutly love everything Mount Kimbie puts out, without fail. Massive fanboy right here. I was absolutly shocked when I saw the link posted on Future Frequencys - mainly beacuse I HAD NO IDEA. And it aired LAST NIGHT.

So big hats go off to 4oD for archving stuff so us slowpokes can watch back. Seriously good performance right here but a stunning pair of artists. Watch and listen to this video, and feel more awesome than you did 11 minutes ago.

Linky below.

Wednesday 6 April 2011

Julio Basemore - Batty Knee Dance/Ribble to Amazon.

I fucking LOVE this release. Ribble to Amazon has SUCH an amazing vibe to it. Proper summer dance music, sound track to this week for sure.

Julio Bashmore is ON IT this year, and can't wait for more from this guy.

Safe!

Monday 4 April 2011

80s electro funk

Aha,

So someone linked me this and its brung back a few memorys, love this stuff. Nostalgia general.

I've got the midas touch.....

Saturday 2 April 2011

Mark Fell: vortex studies

I have been a big follower of Mark Fell and his duo, SND, for a few years now. To me, the music is more of a concept driven journey, the way I listen to it is more akin to the way I'd go about watching a film, rather than some background music whilst I do the dishes.

So naturally i'm quite hyped to hear there is new material on the way, aswell as a sweet interview with Mark on the FACT website,

It's worth reading, and checking out the music aswell. You never know, you might like it.

Thursday 31 March 2011

New 2562 Album

Not sure if im slow on this one, but im pretty hyped for this release.

Personally I love everything 2562 has ever done. I'm a right fanboy in that respect and this album is no different. Love all the choppy breaks, the dubby and techy synths. Great dance music right here.

Tuesday 29 March 2011

HDBO13

I know there is alot of controversy surrounding this record, but I decided it was more than worth the tenner or so store credit I had over at Chemical Records.

So it arrived today, it's my first Burial on wax. So i'm looking forward to it immensly.

Thoughts on this release?

Saturday 26 March 2011

This is me playing on my BMX.

This is me doing a trick on my little bike. I think the tricks called a "tomahawk" - but i've never really been big on the names.

A friend took it for me, and I processed it.

Just a little thing too say "Spring is fucking awesome."

Tuesday 22 March 2011

KORELESS - 4D/MTI
