So I have a massive soft spot for 80's dance/house. 1981 I think this was first pressed. Such a grooving tune, and a great tune to throw in a set to lighten the mood inbetween the acid basslines. Funky!
The oldschool flavour is coming back in at full force now, it's not longer about whos got the newist tracks ya kno....!

Bok Bok - Southside EP
Bok Bok's new EP dropped today (I think it was today at least) and I got ahold of my copy ASAP.
Everyone loves Bok Bok's output right now. Aswell as managing a label and putting on nights at clubs, he is also a spot on producer and DJ.
My favorite track has to be Silo Pass (Featured in the video below). It's old school grime connections just hit somthing with me that makes me pull a screwface and brock out. Love it.
What are other peoples opinions of Bok Boks sound on this ep?
Do you like where he is taking himself (and the label?) recently?

Gil Scott-Heron RIP
A brilliant poet and absolute legend. The world got that little bit more shitty today.

Something a bit different. 90's grunge time!
Yeh so, before I got into eletronic music I was heavily into 90's grunge. In fact, I think the first ever album I bought was Superunknown (From which this tune is off). I still have a bit of a soft spot for the stuff - but I rarely go looking for new material these days.
Nothing beats Chris Cornells voice!

As promised...
As I promised here is the blurry photo of the previous tune.
Long live vinyl, this medium can't die, the message is too strong!!
Also: got this a few days early, not out till monday iirc - everyone loves a cheeky early whitelabel!

Blawan - Getting Me Down
I'm on a MASSIVE hype over this tune. It's just so bouncy and energetic. I first heard it when Pearson Sound played it out at a gig in Southampton, and it went OFF.
Pretty stoked I managed to cop one of the limited pressings, should be here tomorrow! As usual i'll probably post a blurry picture of it.

HD-25 II's
So blogger was down yesturday for me - sorry about that.
Today these arrived, Sennheiser HD-25 II's, and i'm REALLY stoked on them.
I bought them mainly for DJ use rather than monitoring, but seriously these have such a good, full bodied sound. Right down to the deep lows, through the midrange right up to the knife point sharp highs. Really impressed.
Admittedly the build quality isn't "right up there" - and by that I mean they feel slightly plastic - but they feel far from fragile, i feel confident I could rip these of my head during a mix and not be worried about ripping a driver off.
But tbh i've come to aceept that from midrange headphones now - all the money goes straight into the drivers. And man - what drivers they are. Stoked right now.
Also: Metal.

Slow house.
Bit of a mystical story behind this track. Basically I was searching through my phone and I found the title of this track written as a note - I have NO idea when i first heard it, why I wrote the name down or ANYTHING. I've literally on idea how it got on my phone.
So basically before I knew it was this sick chillout slow house tune it was just a random word "trickski pill collins" - the hell? Gave it a google and this was returned.
Its a pretty awesome track aswell. Kinda chillout background music vibe, makes me wanna sit outside with a BBQ and a tall drink...
Enjoy.

So we had some new hiphop last post...
Time for some older stuff.... 1996 vintage.
Not sure why but i'm really feeling hiphop agian right now. I go through stages. I think the slower beats and lyrical flow is a nice break from the relentless 4x4 130bpm stuff that im mainly listening too right now...
Meditation buisness, chill thing, head nod flow....

Jehst is my postman??
3 things:
1: This tune is sick.
2: I'm really hyped about Jehst's new album.
3: This viral campaign/hype machine thing is pretty well done!
Whos into UK hiphop here?

Review: Boddika - 2727 EP
First impressions: wow.
This is the best release I have bought in a LONG time - and not just for the music.
The physical product is brilliant, full gate folded sleeve complete with amazing artwork inside. All printed on a really weighty card with a glossy finish, really sets the product apart from the rest.
Brilliant art direction as always, keeping in like with the rest of Boddika's typeography and visual langage as previous Swamp81 releases - the end product here is really well made and complete. No corners cut.
Then theres the tunes - fantastic 4 records indeed. Tribal beats, analogue synth mastery and agressive high-hats. All on the 4x4, housey tip with triplets coming from garage influence, with techno and acid influenced melodys to accompany the big booming 808 basslines.
There are two 12" plates, both a nice, think weighty plate with deep, clear grooves cut. Again, nothing skimped on here. This is vinyl done properly.
I'm not actually going to review the music as such - mainly because I find all music reviews end up to be pseudo-artistic waffle - it was more the product I wanted to talk about - i'll let you guys check the music if you want.

Tunes like these...
From the other half of producer-badman-duo Intra:mental comes Jon Convex. Another awesome solo project putting out just as sick tunes as Boddika.
This track has summer vibes all over it. From the garage influenced bassline to the chopped vocals, SICK.
Love dance music right now.

Series: |The 10 best British indie record labels - in pictures
This is a really cool article, the ten best British indie labels, with some lovely pictures to boot.
Whats your favorite label? There are so many more i'd love to put on that list, but I sense this went for "the bigger picture" rather than whats current right now.
Give it a few years and Swamp81 will be on this list for sure.
